  Message from the Dean

Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law is committed to developing lawyers who possess moral conviction, social compassion, and professional competence, and who view the practice of law as a calling to serve others and to create a more just society.

These words from our vision statement convey the heart of Campbell School of Law, a very special place where great lawyers are made.

What does it mean to be a great lawyer?

Material success? Perhaps, but at Campbell, GREAT means so much more.

  • It means extraordinary competence and extraordinary commitment to your clients.
  • It means advocating for those without a voice, seeking justice, promoting reconciliation.
  • It means a passionate commitment to the highest ideals of integrity and civility.
  • It means knowing that you are making a difference - every day.

Our definition of a great lawyer grows from a belief that the practice of law is a calling, a vocation derived from the Latin verb "vocare," which literally means "to call." Vocation is what you do that gives your life meaning and purpose.

One can see that meaning and purpose in our dedicated faculty, in our exceptional students, and in the outstanding contributions our graduates make to the practice of law and the larger society.

If you feel called to be a lawyer-a great lawyer-my staff and I look forward to answering your questions and introducing you to the extraordinary legal education at Campbell University School of Law.

Very best,

Melissa A. Essary
Dean
